If your app depends on the Apple API, Apple lookup API, you can just replace the host name of forgot what it's like. I look up that iTunes dot commerce out forgot what just replace the host name with API podcast. index.org. And it just works.

Summary

Apple's lookup API was throwing frequent 503s. Podcast Index runs a clone endpoint: swap the iTunes hostname for api.podcastindex.org and it works, so apps can fall back to it and flip back when Apple recovers.

Not in the audio. Dave's own service (self-promotion). The Apple hostname (itunes.apple.com) is garbled in the transcript; he couldn't remember it on air.

It's really meant to be a failover. So if Apple goes down, you for it has an outage that apps and services can just do an A, B, and failover to us get the exact same data

if Apple's API goes down, all you do is change the host name of the URL, query. Everything else stays the same. And you start getting traffic again.

you detect one outage on an API call to Apple, switch those switch to us for let's say a few minutes, then test it and then try to flip that you do a failover and failback.
